De la performance musicale dans la Guyane traditionnelle : expression cognitive singulière d?une musique-verbe

2021

Guianese culture and traditional music, here evoked, are various. It is more a transcultural process that, along centuries, gave an original result born in the Americas, in Guiana in this case. It is a form of refoundation, of recreation of cultures and new human beings generally called Creoles. The musical performance, that I study here, is the echo of social and cultural space of this reformulation of thought, life, and conception of the world. It is, as well, a mean of transposition and transformation of the values issued of diverse sources and categories. It is in no way a second-rate cultural practice, as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well …

as it is the place where were born philosophies and actions for common life as well as for individual life. This organization of the musical experience requires several levels of readings to better understand the underlying performance that is the issue discussed here. What is then the subject of the musical performance in French Guianese traditional society? What are the implementation techniques and the intrinsic forms of knowledge? What is the creation process and for what goal? Without a doubtlifeUNESCO::CIENCIAS DE LAS ARTES Y LAS LETRASand conception of the world. Research Practices and Operations in Studying Debates and Documents

2017

The chapter presents research practices and operations (or methods and techniques) that are useful in studying debates and documents as part, and as arenas and reflections, of political activity, political processes, strategies and actions. It contains first general considerations that are valid and helpful for most interpretative and textual analyses, with additional emphasis set on how to analyse political activity linked to texts: the research interest and research question target the moves, strategies, interests and actors involved in the political processes in question, rather than simply the contents of the text, and this in return crucially determines material selection, research que…

About the Use of Tag Questions in Andean Spanish

2021

This paper aims to describe the use of tag questions in the variety of Andean Spanish spoken in Bolivia. In particular, it explores the tag questions that occur in the Corpus oral del español hablado por bilingües de aymara-español. The analysis consists of two levels. On the one hand, it describes the pragmatic functions of tag questions and identifies the correlation between their distribution and their pragmatic functions. On the other hand, it focuses on the impact that social factors (the speakers’ sex, age, and education) have on the frequency of the tags. Along these lines, it displays the lack of a general sociolinguistic trend in the use of tag questions, furthermore, it shows that…

Technology-Supported Educational Innovations in Finland and Hong Kong: A Tale of Two Systems

2005

The paper presents a comparison of case studies about innovative ICT-supported pedagogical practices in two educational systems, namely Finland and Hong Kong. The two systems were selected for this in-depth comparison for three main reasons. First, Finland and Hong Kong performed well in several international comparative studies of educational achievement. Second, the case studies collected via the SITES Module 2 indicated rather different profiles between Finnish and Hong Kong schools in terms of ICT infrastructure and pedagogical practices. Third, further analysis of the case studies data indicated differences in emergent pedagogical characteristics between the cases collected in Asia and…

Will drawing be used to study and teach architecture in the next century?

2022

In this millennium, the use of digital tools for representation (and survey, but the subject will not be discussed here) has rapidly and deeply modified the study and the design of architecture. The rapid evolution of this mutation prompts the following question: will drawing be the language of the architect in the next century?

Homological Projective Duality for Determinantal Varieties

2016

In this paper we prove Homological Projective Duality for crepant categorical resolutions of several classes of linear determinantal varieties. By this we mean varieties that are cut out by the minors of a given rank of a n x m matrix of linear forms on a given projective space. As applications, we obtain pairs of derived-equivalent Calabi-Yau manifolds, and address a question by A. Bondal asking whether the derived category of any smooth projective variety can be fully faithfully embedded in the derived category of a smooth Fano variety. Moreover we discuss the relation between rationality and categorical representability in codimension two for determinantal varieties.

Framing automatic grading techniques for open-ended questionnaires responses. A short survey

2021

The assessment of students' performances is one of the essential components of teaching activities, and it poses different challenges to teachers and instructors, especially when considering the grading of responses to open-ended questions (i.e., short-answers or essays). Open-ended tasks allow a more in-depth assessment of students' learning levels, but their evaluation and grading are time-consuming and prone to subjective bias. For these reasons, automatic grading techniques have been studied for a long time, focusing mainly on short-answers rather than long essays. Given the growing popularity of Massive Online Open Courses and the shifting from physical to virtual classrooms environmen…

Brancati su Pirandello e il pirandellismo

2019

In the short novel "Sogno di un valzer" published on "Quadrivio" from 5 June to 14 August 1938 Vitaliano Brancati enacts between observation of places and survey of customs a world beyond measure constantly hovering between reality and dream. In Caltanissetta (Nissa) the city in which the writer is the magistral institute turned his back on fascist Rome he came to teach unobtrusive insignificant characters who nevertheless covet desires racking their brains in metaphysical questions. Thus the leitmotiv of the critics of pirandellism takes shape which often with subtle irony emerges in the Brancatian writings. The essay shows how it intertwines with the sulphurous comedy of the writer of Don Giovanni in Sicilia who tracing a particular topography of the island supported by inner relief leads his analysis of eccentric behaviors and of the aberrations of the mind in which the trivialized Pirandellian thought ends to become an explosive element.
